HAPPY BIRTHDAY, KEVIN!
Today is his special day!
Love Mom and Dad
Matt went to the golf course this morning and had a great round.  I stayed behind and took a good long walk and enjoyed the sunshine.  It is back today and will be fine when the kids come on Thursday, but perhaps not terribly warm by desert standards..  It is next week that we are getting a hot streak...temps 75-76 degrees.  That seems more like it.

Matt is back at the place that "fixed" our car's air-conditioning.  It worked for about 5 minutes.  They now say that there is leak and that is what they are attending to at the moment.  This sounds like more money to me.

Tonight we are going to have dinner with 3 other couples at the Boschman's.  Matt knows them from Sudden Vallley, but I am unfamiliar with any of them.  Always fun to meet new folks.

I am attaching a couple of photos that I took this afternoon on my walk.  Part of the walk is right along the golf course.  It is a very pleasant place to walk.

It is now Saturday night and a lot has happened since I last wrote. As you may remember, I had to visit an emergency room last Sunday in Eugene due to a bladder infection.  Medication was working and I was feeling so much better.  Thursday night rolled around and I was feeling quite bad and found that with insurance from out of state, my best bet was the emergency room once again.  We were there for over 5 hours and in that time I had a blood test, a urine sample, intervenious i.v. for more antibiotic, a Cat Scan and a cathader to relieve the pressure in my bladder.  That was such a relief as I thought I was going to explode...most uncomfortable.  We left at midnight with instructions to see a urologist.  Out of town insurance issues make this so difficult.  LUCKILY, it is now Saturday and I am feeling so much better. The diagnosis was that for whatever reason, I was not adequately emptying my bladder...thus the cathader.  The infection is all but gone (still on cipro for one more day) and the CAT SCAN showed no abnormalities anywhere.  I AM ON THE MEND!  I told Matt that I even hesitate to write this because it sounds like we are having the worst time ever.

One more little tidbit.  Matt took a long bike ride three days ago and came back home with blood running down his leg and he was very dirty.  He was riding on Ramon which is a very heavily travelled street and the sidewalk ended.  Some guy told him to go down into the arroyo and come back up on the other side where the sidewalk resumed.  He went down an incline with rocks and negotiated that just fine, but then he hit sand and he went ass or teakettle.  The bike tire sunk in the sand and the bike came to an abrupt stop and Matt did not.  This he did in front of lots of cars and in plain sight. His pride was hurt more than anything.  We had to laugh that what else could go wrong.

Our condo is nice and in a nice area.  Sox is doing great and has made herself at home.
We are looking forward to some good weather starting Monday.  It has rained all day long today.  By tomorrow it is supposed to improve.  Our kids are coming on Thursday and we NEED some sun.  Cross your fingers for us.

Hopefully, this Dan and Debbie Downer stuff has come to an end!  Someone thought we might want to change our name to the GRISWOLDS!

OUR ARRIVAL YESTERDAY:
Today we had a 6 1/2 hour drive through the suburbs of LA. The traffic was a little crazy, but we made it easily. We arrived at our condo and about 3:30 and the landlord was waiting for us. We were very surprised and pleased, as the condo was furnished better than we had expected and it is larger than we thought. This place is so well stocked that there is little room for our stuff in the cupboards and such. Lovely gardens all around and the pool right out our living room window. GREAT!

We thought we might make it through our 3rd day gone without incident, but not so! After we arrived we carried lots of loads up the stairs and then decided to head to the grocery store before putting stuff away. As we got ready to leave there was a VERY loud explosion and the lights went out for a few minutes. They came back on and we left for the store. We arrived back at the condo after dark (it gets dark earlier here) and found that the entire place was in darkness..like really dark. We stumbled up the stairs and used our cell phones as light. Luckily, as I explored the kitchen earlier, I had seen a flashlight. We put the groceries away and found a couple of tealight candles for a tad of light. Then we sat in the dark and waited. It was too early to go to bed. After a game of cribbage by candlelight, we went to bed at 8:30.

Just before bed, I went into the kitchen with the flashlight and I screamed! There was a cockroach on the counter as big as a 50 cent piece. Having never seen one before, it gave me the creeps. I yelled at Matt and he came to save the day. His attempt to smash the roach resulted in him getting just one of his legs and nothing more. YIKES...this might result in a call to our landlord.

FOLLOW-UP: A transformer exploded near us and the power was out until early morning. By then the chicken was warm and the ice cream was soup. We had to throw away several things this a.m.

OUR FIRST FULL DAY: Today was repair day. Matt's bike went to the bike shop for new handle bars and such. Then as we were driving around and noticed that the air conditioning was not working. Koks in the desert without air...I don't think so! Got that fixed while we stood around waiting for $107.00. I can't imagine what else could go wrong.

Our weather is a bit overcast, but 70 degrees. Quite delightful for the Northwesterners. Rain is expected at the end of the week. Tomorrow I will include some photos of our place.

MISS YA'LL!
